Shigeko Sasamori is a survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and a lifelong advocate for peace. She was just 13 years old when the bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945, suffering severe burns and injuries. In 1955, she was selected as one of the 25 young women known as the “Hiroshima Maidens” to receive reconstructive surgery in the United States, part of a humanitarian effort that also fostered postwar reconciliation.
Shigeko Sasamori passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024, at the age of 92. Her legacy lives on through her unwavering message of peace, resilience, and reconciliation.
