This Good Friday, David Andish, 2016 Best Guitarist in Zambia, teams up with 2014 Best Keyboard Player Blessingtone Malenga and Frazer Dodd on saxophone to give the nation a gift of jazz. The praise song #Kalombo Mwane, is originally a Bemba song from the #Catholic Church but it is now a local standard.
Kalombo Mwane was a royal greeting for the great and much loved Luba chief Kalombo of years gone by. Mwane is a word of respect in general but is also specifically part of the Luba-Lunda royal greeting. Kalombo Mwane.

The #jazz version, a 7.43-minute piece is a song of surrender, humility, and heeding the call to personal transformation and overcoming proposed by Good Friday.
A combination of the organ, piano and strings delivers a heavy and loaded intro - I say a deep Blessingtone emotion, before the guitar comes in. In his interpretation, Andish who also plays the bass on the song, slows it down and turns it into a calm moment of silence and reflection on the mystery of the Crucifixion. -Mwape Sichilongo
