JAPAN vs POLAND | HIGHLIGHTS | Women's VNL 2025. Japan beats Poland to rise to 3rd in the world rankings in the Women's Nations League.

The Japan women's volleyball team, ranked 5th in the FIVB world rankings (before the start of the match), faced off against Poland, ranked 3rd, and won 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22), extending their winning streak at the Chiba tournament to three.

In the first set, Japan took the lead with a 6-3 lead after four consecutive points from Shimamura Haruyo's broad attack, Sato Yoshino's service ace, and spikes from Ishikawa Mayu and Wada Yukiko. Poland also attacked with high, powerful spikes, but Japan countered with Ishikawa's back attack and Sato's service ace, and both teams continued to score in the middle of the game. At 16-12, Iwazawa Miku and others connected, and when Ishikawa scored a long rally, Japan took the lead again and extended their lead to 18-12. Japan was the first to reach the 20-point mark, but Poland also showed signs of catching up with their blocks. Nevertheless, at the end, Ishikawa's spike earned them the set point, and they took the lead in the first set with a score of 25-21.

In the second set, Ishikawa scored the opening point with a spike to the inside. Japan broke down the opponent with their serves and connected to their attacks, scoring four consecutive points from the beginning and taking the lead first. However, Poland's high blocks and spikes caught up with them, tying the score at 7-7. From there, the game was back and forth with side-outs, but Shimamura's broad attacks and spikes from the outside hitters gave Japan a 15-13 lead. The middle part of the game was a back-and-forth battle, but Japan was the first to reach the 20-point mark and enter the final part. The game was close until the end, but Poland showed tenacity and took the set 23-25.

In the third set, Poland lost five points in a row, and Poland took the lead early on. Japan tried to change the flow by bringing Akimoto Misora onto the court to replace Wada, and then Shimamura, Miyabe Airi, and Sato made great plays and gradually caught up to 7-9, and then blocks by Akimoto and Miyabe tied the score at 11-11. From there, the game continued to go back and forth until the end. With the score at 20-19, Ishikawa's service ace made it 21-19. Furthermore, Akimoto's spike gave Japan set point, and Sato's final spike gave Japan the third set, 25-23.

The fourth set started with a service ace from Seki Nanami. Poland dominated the match early on, taking the score to 7-3. Japan also showed tenacity, led by Ishikawa, but was unable to close the gap at 12-16. Substitute Kitamado Ayane was active and gradually closed the gap to 14-16, and at one point Ishikawa's spike brought them within one point, but Poland was the first to reach the 20-point mark. Nevertheless, Japan showed tenacity, scoring four consecutive points to tie the score at 20-20, and continued to score with service aces from Ishikawa, and then Kitamado's spike gave them a match point, taking the set 25-22 and winning the set 3-1.
