If I said we were happy, it would be an understatement! Just over thirteen miles stood between the two Steves and greatness. But we were battered, bruised, shattered and broken men. Not only that, but we had to start the day with a two mile almost vertical climb to the start! (This is not reflected in the above stats.) We reached Windy Gyle and were done. Somehow we managed to summon the spirit to plough on. I had a calf pull, the blister on my foot was on the verge of going bad and it gave me paint endlessly, and so I'd taped it not only with compeed but gaffa tape. There was only one thing to do.... #HEADDOWNBEREIGHT and #WALKITNUMB. Some of the views from the Cheviot Hills were amazing amongst the cloud and when they did part, the atmosphere they created was spellbinding. Much of the walk on the tops reminded me of the soggy moorland of the earlier parts of the walks among the South Pennines, with paves intersecting heather and bog. The hills just kept on coming over and over to the point when we climbed the Schill, we almost shed a tear. But battlehardened and with pure Yorkshire grit, we battled on and by the time we reached the end, we were in euphoric mood. Many drinks were sank at the Border Hotel in celebration.
