I tested Red Dead Redemption 2 on a PC loaded with a Ryzen 9 5900X, RTX 3070, 32GB RAM, and NVMe storage.
On Windows, the game performed exceptionally well with Vulkan at high settings, maintaining a consistent frame rate of around 85 FPS. Everything worked right out of the box, including the Rockstar launcher and overlays.
On Linux (with Proton GE), performance was quite close, within 5 FPS of Windows. Vulkan headed effortlessly, and the game felt responsive; however, the initial shader compilation took longer, resulting in stuttering during the first few minutes. After caching, the gameplay was almost identical to Windows.
Overall, Linux performed admirably with Red Dead Redemption 2, demonstrating that it is a reliable platform for AAA gaming with few compromises.
