Crowds of supporters gather outside the residence of impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol Yoon in Seoul, after a court issued warrants Tuesday to detain him and search his office and residence over allegations of rebellion in connection with his short-lived declaration of martial law.
South Korean police dispersed some of the supporters for the impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol Thursday afternoon near the presidential residence in central Seoul, Yonhap news agency said.
Police officers broke up about 30 supporters, who had lain down on the road in front of the presidential residence's main gate to block investigators from entering the residence.
The officers grabbed the limbs of the supporters and pulled them out one by one, moving them elsewhere by force.
The warrant to arrest Yoon was issued by a Seoul court on Tuesday, and the joint investigative unit to probe Yoon's martial law imposition in early December reportedly planned to raid the presidential residence as early as Thursday afternoon.
On December 31, 2024, a South Korean court approved an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was impeached and suspended from power over his decision to impose martial law on December 3. This marks the first time in South Korean history that an arrest warrant has been issued for an incumbent president.Meanwhile, President Yoon, says the arrest warrant against him as invalid and illegal. Protests erupted outside his residence in Seoul.
