I know a lot of people are not that fond of the modern pop sounding Bon Jovi. Well, I’m not one of them. While I’m raised on rock music I’m more into pop music these days.
Anyway, I think this is a terrific song and I was so bummed it didn’t got played live during my two shows I saw in 2011. It’s a great energetic upbeat power-pop song. I’d say that the four new songs (maybe not The More Things Change) on the Greatest Hits album were the last time I absolutely loved what I heard from the band. There’s still a lot of good stuff since but I’m very fond of those four new songs.
I would say that Shanks is very involved with the guitar work here and I would not be surprised if he plays some of those guitar lines. It’s definetely more of Shanks sound than Richie. There are two guitars on almost the entire song, with one mostly playing chords but I choose the other one as it’s a more fun part to play.
It’s also worth mentioning that live Richie played it in Cm but there’s no doubt that the guitar solo is in C#m with the guitar in Eb tuning. You can clearly hear the open E string at the start and end of the solo. Even more confusing is that the first clean chords in 100% played with the guitar in Eb tuning and a capo on the second fret as it’s very clear that the first chord is a D-chord (technically Eb).
