Lancaster Bombers Daring Raid Deep Into Occupied France - Operation Robinson

Eastern France, Autumn 1942 and with the afternoon daylight fading, a large formation of Avro Lancaster Heavy Bombers are speeding there way over the French countryside at low level. Their target, The Schneider Works, the vitally important Iron and Steel Mill at Le Creusot which is responsible for the manufacture of tanks and heavy weapons for the occupying German Forces. Destroying this target would be a huge blow to the German war machine.

RAF Bomber Command had been suffering with poor results and heavy losses and their new Commander, acting Air Marshall Sir Arthur Harris, was looking for a quick, successful bombing mission.

The target chosen was the Schneider Works at Le Creusot, France. An iron and steel mill in eastern France that was used for the manufacture of locomotives, railways and heavy guns.

The mission would have to be carried in daylight however, due to the need for high accuracy and minimal civilian casualties.
