A lot has taken place over the last two years with the 944. One of the largest challenges that I ran across is that all the fuel lines have rotted out and started leaking. This is a huge disappointment and a time sink I was not ready for. I am in the process of replacing and rerouting the fuel lines to HDPE lined to provide the car with ethanol resistance
The project I am tackling right now is getting the rear hatch reinforced and straightened for bodywork, paint, and install. In the first part I attempted to just use aluminum C channel and a piece of square tube. After fitting I found that the flat area was warped in a compound nature. After letting it sit in the sun, it did not relax the material. At this point I made the judgement call to approach this differently by adding foam core laminate to the flat area. This will provide stiffness and rigidity to the entire lower flat as well as stabilizing it flat. In the next part I will be finishing the fiberglass on the edges and adding the mounting hardware.
