Just a quick (and late!) video this week showing the LMS Fairburn tank getting the weathering treatment.
I did this at the same time as the Ivatt tank, with both engines getting a very similar treatment. Like the Ivatt, I wanted a relatively clean engine and well cared for engine (at least for the period) - especially compared to the crazy state some of the Fairburns were in by the early 1960s on the London Midland region.
1 - Overall spray of black/grey, rotating wheels with a battery to ensure they’re covered.
2 - Brown/rust added to cylinders, also used to add some streaking to loco body
3 - Smoke weathering powder added to smokebox
4 - rust/brown weathering powder added to cylinders
5 - white weathering powder highlighting raised areas
6 - wheels cleaned
7 - IPA alcohol used to streak grime on buffer beam
8 - coal added to tender
9 - Usually I'd add a crew, but I need to stock up on drivers and firemen!
All paints are Tamiya and weathering powders are Humbrol.
As always, thanks for watching.
