Katina has passed away, a legend has left us. She was more than a matriarch, more than just a whale; she was the original mother Shamu, the mother of seven calves, including Kalina, the original baby Shamu who made history. Katina inspired millions of people, both visitors and trainers. Katina was an incredibly loving mother, grandmother, and matriarch; she loved what she did, she loved the attention, and she had inexhaustible energy. We will miss her high jumps and energy, but we will never forget her. She has gone down in history and will never be forgotten. We carry her in our hearts, and Nalani and Malia are just as impressive as her when it comes to jumping height. Wherever Katina is now, she is reunited with her calves who went before her, and I am sure Dawn welcomed her with open arms and will take good care of her.
