The girls were safely home, and I was soon out checking out what Hobart and surrounds had to offer. I had seen an ad on a real estate website for a Boatshed at Cornelian Bay for sale. The weather was still a bit dull, but I went to have a look. Sadly, the boatshed that was advertised had already sold!
I continued on to Bellerive and saw the Bellerive Yacht Club and Marina and what was left of the old Sydney Ferry, 'Kosciusko' nearby.
I headed south to Recherche Bay and Cockle Creek, with a brief stop at the Port Huon Marina. I found the historic site where the French Expedition commanded by Bruni D'Entrecasteau found water when they, with the two ships, the 'Esperance' and the 'Recherche', desperately low on fresh water, discovered it there. It was the second visit by the French expedition, and they developed a very good rapport with the local indigenous people and were sad to leave.
At the end of the road, at Cockle Creek, is the Whale Sculpture of a Southern Right Whale. This is as far south as you can drive in Tasmania, and it is where hikers start the South Coast Track Walk in the Southwest National Park, from Cockle Creek to Melaleuca.
