**NOTE: I recently tried this setup again in Maya 2018. I had a number of bugs and frustrations. I now prefer to use the new mash "curve warp" on a polygon plane, then wrap the curve of the spline Ik to the poly plane. Its far less buggy and works nicely, the ik setup is the same as here. Just no motion path and or flow object. Switch those for curve warp and the wrap deformer.

To snap joints to a path like a fish or an eel swimming along a curve we use...
1. Spline IK (Skeleton - Spline IK)
2. Motion Path (Animate - Attach to Motion Path)
3. Flow Path Object (Animate - Flow Path Object)
