Health Confidence • What is it? • How to Restore it!

💙 Health Confidence:
• Is a term I use to refer to your belief in your capability to effectively participate in your daily activities.
• It is your trust in your ability to move, think, and do the things you do every day.
💙 You may not realize you ARE confident about these abilities – until you lose them!
💙 What can STEAL your health confidence?
• Accident / Injury / Surgery
• The onset or progress of a disease or health condition
• Mental health conditions
• Aging?
• Any combination of the above
💙 Keys to Improvement in Health Confidence:
• Appropriate health care and lifestyle (including food and hydration)
• Time to heal
• Learning coping strategies
• Moving to improve!
💙 Water is a GREAT place to get moving:
• Reduced gravitational loading allows more activity sooner, improving exercise comfort, blood flow, and mental health.
• Aquatic resistance is infinitely adaptable and omni-directional. This means exercise intensity can be precisely customized to meet individual needs.
• Omni-directional resistance means loading can exactly match training needs (example: sport movement patterns and sequences can be replicated and trained in the water).
• Vertical exercise in the water constantly trains balance, core, and respiratory muscles.
• You can work as intensely or gently as desired. The water exactly matches your effort!
• When you stop moving in water, resistance STOPS. There is less chance of re-injury. This builds confidence in the ability to move.
• Swelling (especially of the lower limbs) is dramatically reduced when immersed vertically in the water. This means swollen knees or feet will move better, allowing better range of motion and strengthening throughout movement range.
• Warm water is perfect for activities like Ai Chi and aqua yoga. Relaxation is enhanced. Pain is reduced. Exercise comfort and enjoyment are increased, meaning people are more likely to return and continue to exercise regularly!
