Jade Mendoza, Standing Structure Survey Coordinator, shares insights from the Nebraska State Historic Preservation Office’s ongoing effort to document Green Book sites across the state.
This statewide thematic survey, which began in May 2024, focuses on the businesses, residences, and community spaces that served Black travelers during the Jim Crow era. Although the project will not be completed until May 2026, this talk offers a first look at research findings, notable sites, and the collaborative process behind uncovering this important chapter of Nebraska’s history.
Part of the Nebraska State Historical Society's Lunchbox Lecture Series, originally presented July 15, 2025 at the Nebraska History Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The recording of this video was made possible by LNKTV and the Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation.
