MMCM - The Picture in the House
Rain traps a stranger.
A traveler takes shelter in a remote farmhouse and meets an elderly man with a strange book and a disturbing taste for its images. The conversation turns, and the house feels tighter with each line. Lightning gives one clear moment, then the visitor runs.
I knocked on warped pine.
An old man waved me in.
A book lay open on the table.
A drawing looked too sure.
Road washed out.
Wrong door.
He spoke of cuts and portions.
He spoke of foreign pages.
He smiled without warmth.
My hand stayed on the latch.
A flash split the room.
The house shook once.
I ran for the yard.
Thunder hid my steps.
