Add Books to your Hat Making Journey

Inspiration is one a key ingredient in creating Hats and Milliners (hat makers) all over the world find inspiration from each other and from helpful books. Especially the books that give you step by step instructions. Although my hat designs are geared towards everyday use I am constantly in awe of and inspired by the makers in my field that create one of a kind millinery, quite a bit of which would fall into the category of Fascinators.

I am expanding the channel as we embark on our third year and hitting the the milestone of 10,000 subscribers (humbled and grateful) to include the supplies I recommend for a Hat Business and or sewing business or a business that is based in Creativity. Books are a great source of inspiration and there are quite a few of them now that deal in all sorts of hats. I will share some of my favorite titles from my growing library and offer a peek inside so you can see if the book might be right for you.

My first book, 38 years ago when I started my hat business Mad Cap Hats, was "From the Neck Up" by Denise Dreher. It is a really deep dive into Hats and was on the book list as recommended reading when I started my journey to become a Certified Milliner through the Fashion Program at George Brown College in Toronto, Canada. It is available on Amazon still although a bit pricey (Canada link) as it may now be out of print. The .com Amazon, USA site, is much more reasonably priced.

One of my newest books is also highlighted in this Video. Extremely good value and I highly and completely recommend it. "Fascinators" by Hannah Scheidig. It is a beautiful, one of my favorite hat books purchases. You will find inspiration on every page and detailed instructions about how to make and what supplies you need in order to make, 25 beautiful hats. We will make floral crowns, with the help of this book, coming soon on the channel. Floral Crowns are a great way to start learning about making Fascinators and with lots of patience, lots of making and creating, lots of determination ... we have a small chance of being as fabulous in our designs and skills as Lisa Burrows who is briefly featured in this video and will be featured in another video featuring hat blocks soon.
