Five senior military leaders were killed, wiping out the top tier of Libya’s UN-recognised command structure in a single moment.
Al-Haddad was a key rival to eastern commander Khalifa Haftar, having helped block an offensive on Tripoli. His death comes just days after Pakistan’s army chief met Haftar’s camp in the east for a reported multibillion-dollar arms agreement that bypassed Tripoli entirely.
Authorities have not alleged foul play, but the loss leaves a dangerous power vacuum — and raises questions at a volatile moment in Libya’s fractured conflict.
