Plastid || The Fundamental Unit of Life - 13 || for Class 9 in Hindi

In this Science (Biology) video in Hindi for class 9th we explained the structure and functions of plastid. This is a topic from Chapter 5 - 'The fundamental unit of life' of science from NCERT.

The plastid  is a double-membrane-bound semi autonomous organelle, found in the cells of plants, algae, and some other eukaryotic organisms, generally for photosynthesis and for storage of fat, protein and starch.

Plastids can be categorized into three major types, viz., chromoplast, leucoplast and gerontoplast. Chromoplasts are the colourful plastids, whereas, leucoplasts are the colourless plastids. Chromoplast got its colour due to some pigments like carotene, xanthophyll and chlorophyll. Chromoplast with chlorophyll is known as chloroplast, which is responsible for photosynthesis. Leucoplasts are for storage of fat lipid and starch. Amyloplast stores starch, proteinoplast stores protein, elaioplast stores fat and tannosome produces tannin. When chloroplast degenerates, it converts into gerontoplast.
