M37 Original vs New Rim

We would like to highlight the main differences between the original Budd style wheels used on the M37 and Dodge Power Wagon and our new two piece bolt together rims.

The original rims used a flap and tube for airing up the tire to the correct pressure. The tires used were usually and NDT that was a bias ply and not an actual radial tire. Over time and cycles of mounting and dismounting the tires the rims were prone to cracking between the lug hole and the hub hole which would create a dangerous situation traveling down the road. Fewer and fewer shops are willing to work with the split ring style rim, so that leaves you doing the work yourself. These rims are known to be dangerous and if not properly cleaned and inspected before install the ring can come off and either damage your shop, or you.

The rims we have made for the M37 and Power Wagon are a true two piece design. There is an o-ring between the two halves to seal the rim and allow you to run a more modern radial tire design and no more need for an inner tube. With some basic tools, such as a 1/2" cordless impact, anyone can put one of these rims and tires together in just a few minutes. It doesn't matter if you are on the road or the trail. Most important of all, the original face of the rim is around 3/16" thick and the lug holes are chamfered on the front and back. This new design is made from 3/8" thick steel, only chamfered on one side, and the hub hole has been tightened up. All of this means there is a far less chance for cracking between the lug holes and the hub holes like on the original rims.

All rims will be shipped with yellow zinc chromate hardware for better corrosion resistance, a new o-ring, a valve stem with a new seal and core. We have the rims available is 12 or 24 bolt configurations. All ready to mount the tire of your choice. We also offer tires and mounting service so all you have to do is bolt them onto your truck.
