TRUE STORY
This is a story of the Essex ship and its crew's harrowing experience
In 1820, the Essex, a whaling ship from Nantucket, Massachusetts, set sail with 21 crew members. While sailing in the Pacific Ocean, the ship was attacked and sunk by a massive sperm whale. The crew escaped in small boats, but with limited supplies and no rescue in sight, they faced a desperate survival situation.
To stay alive, the crew reluctantly resorted to cannibalism, eating the flesh of their deceased companions. The horrific ordeal lasted for 83 days, during which eight crew members died. The remaining survivors drew lots to decide who would be sacrificed next. Eventually, only eight crew members were rescued, and their shocking story became one of the most infamous maritime disasters in history.
