Happy Golden Spike Day, railfans!
The Rio Grande Depot is often overlooked as an irrelevant piece of ancient history, isolated and forgotten on the west side of downtown Salt Lake City. In fact, it has one of the most interesting and complete stories to tell about our city, touching on so many important city topics and identities.
In this first part of depot's story, the depot is planned, revised, constructed, opened, and accepted as a central gathering place for Salt Lake City residents and travelers alike.
