Aslam O Alekum dears students, welcome to my You Tube channel @Ziatutorials. In this section of video you will learn the Tetanus, Tetany and how they are different from each other.
Tetanus and tetany are two distinct medical conditions related to muscle function:
Tetanus:
A bacterial infection caused by Clostridium tetani
Characterized by muscle stiffness, rigidity, and spasms
Can lead to "locking" of the jaw (trismus) and difficulty swallowing
Can be fatal if left untreated
Prevented by vaccination (DTaP or Tdap)
Tetany:
A condition characterized by muscle cramps, spasms, and weakness
Caused by an imbalance of electrolytes (calcium, magnesium, or potassium)
Can be a result of various underlying medical conditions or medications
Symptoms include muscle twitching, cramping, and stiffness
Treatment focuses on addressing the underlying cause and replenishing electrolytes
Key differences:
Tetanus is an infection, while tetany is a symptom complex related to electrolyte imbalance.
Tetanus is typically more severe and life-threatening, while tetany is generally milder and more manageable.
