With the encouragement from customers at her Thai and Lao establishment and the goal of promoting Lao culture and cuisine, Chef Seng opened the first exclusive Lao cuisine restaurant in Washington, DC in 2014. Sticky rice being the staple of Lao cuisine, Chef Seng named her restaurant, Thip Khao, which refers to the sticky rice serving basket, bringing locals and the Lao community together with a variety of authentic Laotian dishes. Chef Seng and her son, Chef Bobby are also the advocates of Lao Food Movement. Their goal is to raise awareness of Laotian culture through its cuisine, and to encourage the Lao community to appreciate and be proud of their culture and traditions.
