This video is a follow up to the “Each of the 22 Deltics at King’s Cross” slideshow published on the 1st February 2020. Once again these images were taken in the Rail Blue/TOPS era from mid-1975 to late 1981. I have re-used vitually all the nameplate images from the first slideshow (55002 added courtesy of the NRM). At least a couple of images of each locomotive are featured (55in this video and range up to as many as eight. I recorded Deltics at a number of locations along the East Coast Main Line during the time period although there is a heavy bias towards the southern end especially at London (King’s Cross). This is because I lived over 100 miles west of the ECML and the nearest and most convenient place to observe Deltics was at The Cross. The slideshow also includes Deltics straying away from their restricted sphere of operations with special workings and appearances at depot open days. I have attached a soundtrack of Deltic sounds plus other types such as Class 31s, 47s and various DMUs all recorded at King’s Cross on the 18th December 1976 and 7th January 1977. The equipment used was a Hitachi Cassette tape recorder so although rather crude It does make a suitable soft background accompaniment if you can excuse my commentary. By coincidence the Deltic sounds recorded are from the preserved examples 55002/9/16/19. At the 8 minute mark you may hear 55019 bellow a couple of times as it is driven hard whilst shuffling up and down the yard.
