Ovary Ultrasound Normal Vs Endometrioma Imaging Findings | Chocolate Cyst. Ground Glass Appearance
Endometrioma:
A type of cyst formed when endometrial tissue grows in the ovaries.
"Ground-glass" Echogenicity: Classic hallmark. Homogeneous, low-level internal echoes resembling a ground-glass appearance due to old blood content.
"Kissing ovaries": Seen in severe endometriosis. Ovaries are located close together behind the uterus due to adhesions.
No internal vascularity on doppler, which helps distinguish them from neoplastic masses.
Can be multilocular
Absence of papillary projections: Papillary projections or solid components raise suspicion for malignancy (which are usually absent in endometriomas).
Persistence over time: Endometriomas often persist over several menstrual cycles, unlike functional cysts which usually resolve.
