Solo Portland to Portsmouth - horrible night in Chapmans Pool

I sailed Zephyr IV, single handed from a mooring at the Castle Cove Sailing Club in Portland Harbour, along the Dorset coast to Royal Clarence marina at the Eastern end of the Solent in Gosport.
A highlight was being passed by The Waverly Paddle Steamer, the last seagoing, passenger carrying, paddle steamer. Checkout the website below.
An engine problem on Zephyr IV and failing wind as I approached St Albans head prompted me to take a chance on a night in Chapmans Pool. A light Southerly wind turned into a stronger South Westerly, and on a very very dark night, I had a sleepless and worrying time, with waves going past and breaking on the beach 350 feet behind me. If the anchor had failed I would have been on the beach in minutes. Probably the most frightening night I've had afloat. A robust sail from there to Gosport via the Needles channel and Hurst point was a great relief after the tension of the night.
