Video of a ride on New Flyer "Xcelsior" XDE40 9579 on the M15 SBS from 125th Street & 2nd Avenue to South Ferry. Here's the rundown of the trip (and neighborhoods the bus runs in):
0:00 - 8:10 125th Street to 95th Street (Harlem to Upper East Side) via 2nd Avenue
8:10 - 18:18 95th Street to 57th Street (Upper East Side to Midtown) via 2nd Avenue
18:18 - 29:11 57th Street to 23rd Street (Midtown, Murray Hill, Kips Bay) via 2nd Avenue
29:11 - 36:18 23rd Street to Houston Street (Kips Bay, Gramercy, East Village) via 2nd Avenue
36:18 - 46:12 Houston Street & 2nd Ave to Pearl & Frankfort Streets (Lower East Side, Chinatown) via Allen & Madison Streets
46:12 - 52:32 Pearl & Frankfort Streets to South Ferry (Financial District) via Pearl & Water Streets
Due to a snowstorm, all articulated (artic) bus routes in New York City started using standard size buses because of poor handling in the snow, including greater potential to jackknife (with the exception of the XE60s). Since the M15 SBS is an artic route, it typically does not see XDE40s, unless conditions mandate it or there is a shortage of artics.
Bus 9579 is an XDE40 which was delivered in 2021 to Mother Clara Hale Depot in Harlem. Buses typically operate on the M1 and M7 routes, but can appear on occasion on the M35. These 2021 XDE40s are slightly different from their predecessor since they have doors which slide outward when opening and closing.
