First up is the Elfin MS8 Streamliner, a car that looked like it drove straight out of the 1960s but was born in the 2000s. Built by a small company in Adelaide with help from Holden, the MS8 mixed retro curves with a roaring 5.7-liter V8 engine. It had sharp engineering, low weight, and race-inspired handling—all packed into a fiberglass body that looked more classic than modern. It even had a special edition with nearly 470 horsepower and a 0–100 time of just 3 seconds.

Then there’s the Leyland P76 Force 7V, a weird mix between a muscle car and a hatchback. It had a fastback roofline, a big aluminum V8, and a rear seat that folded flat for extra space. Leyland had big plans for it, but an oil crisis and bad timing crushed the dream. Out of 56 cars built, most were destroyed—only 10 survived. Today, they’re some of the rarest Australian cars ever made.

And who could forget the Holden Hurricane? Built in 1969 as a concept car, it looked like a spaceship on wheels. It had no doors—just a rising roof canopy that opened like a fighter jet. It also had tech like a backup camera, magnetic navigation system, and digital displays—decades before anyone else thought of them. It was never meant for the streets, but it showed the world what Australian designers were capable of dreaming up.

Finally, we look at the Holden Torana A9X Hatchback, a car that looked like it was ready for war. Created for racing, it had a 5.0-liter V8, a reverse hood scoop, and suspension tuned to grip the road like glue. It dominated Australian tracks in the late 1970s and became a legend thanks to Peter Brock and Jim Richards. With only 100 hatchbacks ever made, it’s one of Australia’s most collectible muscle cars.
