Machine Calf Press: Primary Muscle(s): Gastrocnemius
Secondary Muscle(s): Soleus
Preparation:
Select the desired weight that fits your workout program.
Some machines have adjustable back pads.
Mount the machine by placing your toes and balls of your feet on the edge of the platform and your ankles and heels hanging off the platform.
Be sure to keep your head and back flat against the pad.
Execution:
Grasp the handgrips while pushing the weight up.
Lower your heels until you achieve a full stretch on your calves.
Return to the starting position by pushing with your toes and balls of your feet.
Repeat.
Note:
For proper breathing, exhale when pushing out inhale on the return.
Variation:
Pointing your toes inward targets the lateral head or outer calf.
Pointing your toes outward targets the medial head or inner calf.
