I've Never had a Corpse Reviver before... | How to Drink

Somehow I've never had a Corpse Reviver before now, and with it being the Spooky Season and all, it seems like a perfect time to fix that! Let's revive some corpses.

Way back in the 1800's a "Corpse Reviver" was really just slang for any "morning after" hangover drink, as in "You Best Revive Your Corpse"... Wikipedia says that the term first appears in print to describe a drink in Punch Magazine in 1861. By 1871 there was a semi official recipe, but that's all out the window by the time we get to the two drinks that are most commonly referred to as "Corpse Reviver", number's 1 and 2 respectively. Now in this episode of How to Drink I'm only talking about the Number 2, perhaps we'll look at the Corpse Reviver Number 1 another day. The number 2 for what it's worth is the far more popular version and the one I think most people are commonly calling for. It's a simple drink, equal parts Gin, Lemon, Kina, and Curaçao with a dash of absinthe, shaken and served up. In the video I discover that I don't mind a dash or so of Maraschino in it either.

Corpse Reviver #2
.75 oz. or 22 ml. Lemon Juice
.75 oz. or 22 ml. Kina L'Aero D'or
.75 oz. or 22 ml. Dry Curaçao
.75 oz. or 22 ml. London Dry Gin
One dash of Absinthe
Shake & strain into coupe
Garnish with a cherry.
