Tutorial Bf109 F2 Revell part 7 - Intermezzo III (Airbrush)

This is one of many "shot" format videos that will take you trough the entire build process from theory to actual assembly and painting of a scale model. In this series of videos we will be building a Bf109 F-2 German fighter aircraft from WWII released by Revell and borrowed from Zvezda.

This is my first attempt at a tutorial video and hopefully I will be able to give you enough basic knowledge to get you started in this hobby. The reason for this set of tutorials is that, I often come across individuals that are very interested in this hobby, but do not know even the basic steps in model building and as such are scared to start a model due to a lack of knowledge.
Well let me assure you. This hobby is as simple and complex as you want to be. You can be very pedantic and meticulous, but you can also just follow the instructions and don't bother with specific and minor details.
If I have any word of advice is, have fun and make this hobby yours. Honestly you don't need a lot of tools to get you started but you will need to purchase them if you do not have them. The basic tools for a beginner are:
Scalpel (with interchangeable blades)
Side cutters
Sanding sticks (or just a 3 sided sanding stick)
Tweezers
Cutting mat A3/A4 size
Cement

For hand painting:
2x brushes, 1x wide flat soft brush and 1x medium soft pointed brush
Cleaning cup
Tap water and alcohol (if you are using acrylic paints)
*Alternatively a dedicated paint thinner and cleaner
Paint tray
Kitchen paper towels
Mixing stick
Paints for the model

All this items have a certain price and assuming you have no tools we are talking roughly 50 euros + paints + the model = ~80 EUR
The price can vary because of local taxes, prices, availability of items, etc.
This does not include airbrush related tools and equipment.

For painting with an Airbrush you will need:
an airbrush ~ 50 eur
compressor with tank ~ 140 eur
hoses, fittings, cleaning tools ~ 20 eur
cleaning pot ~ 15 eur
*paint booth ~ 140 eur (optional)
latex gloves ~ 15 eur
**painting mask with filters ~40 eur (recommended for non acrylic paints)
mixing cups ~ 5 eur
airbrush cleaner ~ 8 eur
TOTAL: ~ 433 eur

As you can see the investment in airbrush painting is considerable and you should only do it if you have the means and see yourself in this hobby long term. Note that, you can get this same items at a very reduced price by buying them secondhand or at sales. That can reduce the cost up to 50%.
