The winners for Design Challenge #2 are in! I submitted a microgame, Zoom In, but it seems it didn't make the cut. No big deal. I made it on my first day upon playing the game, and all of these are made by people who seem to have understood the engine inside and out.
I submitted Parrot Top for Design Challenge #3 though. I hope it makes it, as I've since gotten better at making these.
1. "Marathon Day" from Leiden: This one is easy enough to understand and easy enough to win consistently. There are no glaring flaws in it, though it's interesting to see a button that moves. Interesting attempt to make things dynamic.
2. "8-Bit Hockey" from Ché: A very weird variation on air hockey, with Mario bouncing a bubble with a Blooper. The Blooper is programmed to always get the ball on the first go and miss on the second.
3. "Penalty Kill" from Brandon: You can constantly click on the goalie to keep him defending the puck. I don't know if it's intentional or not, but there's no way I can defend the goal for the entire length of the microgame otherwise.
4. "HOMERUN!!!!!" from Jalli: These are sprites taken from Super Mario RPG. Nice transcribing of those sprites to outside of its context, but the baseball can be difficult to see.
5. "Turtle Golf" from Lemmy: It took me a while to figure out what you were supposed to do here. It seems you click on where it says "FORE!" to swing the ball. I should crack this one open and see how the ball's "Bounce" command works.
6. "USA Football" from Hero X: It also took me some time to figure this one out. I thought you could click anywhere on the screen, but you have to click on the guy in the end zone.
7. "Curling King" from Chris: Yes! My microgame didn't make it in, but I'm glad one about curling did. Not too sure how this works, but rapid clicking seems to let me win. I presume this is supposed to be like sweeping the place.
8. "Going Green" from Blueguy: You know, these golf microgames have some interesting ball physics. I'm quite curious as to how they do it. The Scottish guy is a nice touch.
9. "Rally Game" from Kyou: This is essentially Pong brought into WarioWare. I'm ure this works great on the DS, though I sometimes miss the paddles in Showcase.
10. "Hole-In Won" from Cydrius: More golf! Well, this is mini-golf. Pretty straightforward here, but that doesn't mean it's bad.
11. "Pit Crew" from cravipat: You have to fill the gas before you fix the tires or you won't finish the microgame in time. This is a heads up.
12. "Retrotech GP" from Nick: Another car racing one? I can see I was going to enter a saturated field...You must make sure to not hit any of the other cars or you crash. I like the illusion of speed in this microgame.
13. "Sports Dweeb" from Dave: There is a fatal flaw in this microgame: You must click on "Watch" when the TV is on chess. However, the screen changes randomly, sometimes giving you only a quarter of a second to respond. If chess appears at the beginning or very end, you lose. On rare instances, the chess microgame doesn't even appear at all, making this an auto-lose.
14. "Touchdown" from Mr E: This one is quite similar in principle to "USA Football," except that you don't lose when tackled. All the stuff going on makes this perhaps the most complex microgame, animation-wise. You're even told when to toss the ball from the audience!
15. "The Race" from G.O.: I couldn't help but laugh for a while when I saw Mario racing on a Bullet Bill. Wario is in his Wario Car, and there's a guy from Excitebike. Even the audience is weird and random. This is also a MUCh better-designed version of "Moto Madness," which had you predict who won rather than pay attention.
16. "Epic Swim" from Jack: The instructions make it clear more than anything else. Once you pass the middle, the swimmer automaticall goes to the far right.
17. "He's @ the50" from Shadow: This can be grueling at higher speeds as it's all based on reaction time. Lots of people seem motivated to put up American football considering Jimmy T. missed one entirely.
18. "DIY-CATHLON" from REDDOGinc: A lot of random stuff to do, what gave me the most trouble was noticing the object in Wario's hands that would have him throw it. I think this microgame would've done better without the buttons, clicking on Wario or the screen instead to automatically do the required action.
