🇦🇹🇩🇪🇨🇭 Ein Naturerlebnis im Nationalpark Thayatal – entlang eines Flussabschnitts, der sich hervorragend zum Paddeln eignen würde, aber leider verboten ist. Wir wandern neben der Thaya, besuchen das Max Plateau und den Reginafelsen und zeigen eine Landschaft, die sowohl vom Ufer als auch vom Wasser aus eindrucksvoll wäre.

In jener Zeit, als ich mit dem Paddeln begann – Mitte der 80er-Jahre – war dieser Abschnitt eine beliebte Paddelstrecke. Heute ist er leider gesperrt.
Unsere Kinder können nur noch in alten Büchern – wie jenem von Hans Matz – lesen, wie Menschen einst im Einklang mit der Natur durch diese Landschaft paddelten, ohne ihr zu schaden.
Wie am Ende des Videos in einem kurzen Statement an die Verantwortlichen für das Verbot bereits erwähnt, möchten wir diese Veränderung sachlich ansprechen.

Dieses Video versteht sich als stiller, sachlicher Hinweis:
Wir respektieren den Schutz des Gebietes. Gleichzeitig denken wir, dass ein vollständiges Paddelverbot eine unnötige Einschränkung darstellt. Wie in unserem Statement formuliert, wären differenzierte Lösungen möglich – etwa zeitlich begrenzte Nutzung, Genehmigungen (Permit) oder Anlandeverbote.
Besonders für Kinder ist ein direktes Erleben von Natur wichtig. Ein pauschales Verbot nimmt ihnen diese Möglichkeit.

Darum gehen wir heute neben dem Wasser, anstatt auf dem Wasser zu sein – ein ruhiger Verweis darauf, dass Naturschutz und naturverträgliche Nutzung sich nicht ausschließen müssen.

🇬🇧 ENGLISH VERSION – Thayatal National Park
A nature experience in the Thayatal National Park – along a river section that would be ideal for paddling but is unfortunately forbidden. We hike beside the Thaya River, visit Max Plateau and Regina Rock, and explore a landscape that is impressive from the trail and would also be meaningful from the water.

When I started paddling in the mid-1980s, this stretch of the river was a popular paddling route. Today, it is unfortunately off-limits.
Children today can only learn from old books – such as the work by Hans Matz – how people once paddled through this landscape in harmony with nature, without causing damage.
As mentioned at the end of the video in our short statement addressed to those responsible for the ban, we aim to address this change in a factual and respectful way.

This video is a quiet, factual note:
We respect the protection of this area. At the same time, we think that a total ban on paddling is an unnecessary restriction. As stated in our closing message, more balanced solutions would be possible – limited access, permits, or no-landing zones.
For children especially, real contact with nature matters. A blanket ban removes that opportunity.

So today we walk beside the water instead of on it – a calm reminder that conservation and responsible use do not have to exclude each other.
