Mozambique has one of the longest coastlines in Africa and some of the most ambitious plans to protect it. Yet until recently, almost all of the country’s diving industry and marine research were led by foreigners.
When I learned about the first fully Mozambican-owned and run dive center, it became clear that their work could play an important role in conservation, opportunity, and the future of Mozambique’s reefs.
What I found on the ground was far more powerful than we expected.
