Flipping a large undergraduate statistics module using an interactive digital textbook Alena Haddley (Liverpool)
I would like to discuss the structure of flipped learning in a large second-year undergraduate statistics module. I will present the online learning component of this module, which takes the form of an interactive digital textbook, including randomly generated short formative quizzes. Students are expected to engage with the online learning before attending on-campus sessions, where the knowledge gained from the online content is further practised and consolidated. I will also discuss the structure of the on-campus sessions. The structure outlined in this talk, combining online learning with in-person consolidation, provides a practical framework that can be adapted across different disciplines and class sizes. It is particularly relevant for educators seeking to incorporate active learning strategies and the flipped classroom model into the teaching of large modules.
This talk was recorded as part of the TALMO session Three twenty-minute talks on Wednesday 18 June 2025 2pm-3:30pm (BST). See https://talmo.uk/2025/threetwenty.html for further details and slides.
