Green Side Up was a 1980s reforstation unit that came out of the Takilma Commune near Cave Junction, Oregon. --This is the story of a unique time in the lives of hundreds of now aging hippies who lived in the Pacific Northwest during the 19770s and early 1980s -- Robert Hirning describes the times, the work and the strategies that brought cash into the communes and helped bring the forests back after the clear cuts of the 1960s and 1970s. This narrative is part of the Stories of Southern Oregon project funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities Common Heritage program.
