As a black man in South Africa, life was never easy, but Lebo stuck with his love of music and performance, eventually becoming the youngest nightclub performer in Soweto when he was just 13 years old. With a slight twist of fate, Lebo was able
to meet the man who would be able to set him up with his own version of the American Dream; that being Ambassador to the U.S., Tim Thahane. Upon recognizing his talent and drive, Tim arranged for Lebo to take the admissions exams at the Duke Ellington School of Music in Washington D.C. The following years proved to be a continuous upward spiral to stardom for Lebo; eventually culminating to the tipping point of receiving a call from Hans Zimmer, who had been searching throughout Africa for him. This lead to the two's collaboration on the Grammy Award winning soundtrack of 'The Lion King,' for which Lebo is credited as the lead vocalist, choral arranger, conductor and co-writer.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
