Kenny Kirkland Solo Transcription on Dienda

Hello all!
Back with another transcription after a far too long break… 🙄 I noticed that my Kenny Kirkland Solar transcription has gotten over 17,000 views!? I’m extremely grateful for those and all the nice comments as well. So I decided to post this wonderful solo of Kenny’s on his own composition Dienda. This is the original version from the Branford Marsalis album Royal Garden Blues.
I have just loved this composition and his soloing on it for many years. I really can’t think of a better “modern” jazz waltz actually. A gorgeous theme over a really interesting and complex harmonic structure that somehow doesn’t detract from the melody. Sting seemed to be equally impressed so much by this song that he wrote lyrics to it after Kenny’s unfortunate passing.
Kenny’s solo is just so lyrical and rhythmic at the same time. I love the way he pushes and pulls manipulating the time and making it feel just so much like, well, Kenny…
I hope you all enjoy it and learn as much from it as Ii did.
