ISAIAH 9:1-7 | SHINE P. THOMAS

Wishing you a Blessed Christmas!
God answers the deep darkness of Israel with His Son. Jesus is the Light who dawns, the King who saves, and the Prince who brings peace.
• Isaiah 7:1–12:6 – Judah does not trust God.
• Isaiah 7:14; 9:6 – God’s promise: children/seed.
• Isaiah 7:1–14 – Ahaz refuses the challenge/sign.
• Isaiah 7:15–8:22 – Judgment.
• Isaiah 9:1–7 – HOPE.
The Messiah’s Names: Who Is This Child?
Jesus: Greek form of Joshua, means “The Lord saves”; Mt. 1:21
Immanuel: God with us; Mt. 1:23; Is. 7:14
Wonderful Counsellor; Is. 9:6
Mighty God; Is. 9:6
Everlasting Father; Is. 9:6
Prince of Peace; Is. 9:6
Dark Days in Isaiah’s Time
Corruption, injustice, neglect of the poor, idolatry
Warning: judgment if no repentance
Assyrian invasion – darkness, distress, and gloom
Isaiah 9:1; 2 Kings 15:29 (Zebulun, Naphtali, Galilee)
Key question: “Where is God?”

Light Has Dawned; Is. 9:2; Mt. 4:13–16
Darkness is real, but not final
God is faithful; His promises stand
“The lights will turn on again.” There is hope for God’s people
What the Light Brings: Is. 9:3–5
Hope, joy, victory, freedom/release, peace.
Christmas Leads to the Cross & Resurrection
The cross looks like defeat, but it is victory
Hebrews 2:14–15 — breaks the devil’s power; frees from fear of death
Colossians 2:15 — triumph over powers
1 John 3:8 — destroys the devil’s works
John 16:33 — “Take heart; I have overcome the world.”
LIFE APPLICATION
Receive Jesus as Saviour
There is hope for God’s people
God is faithful to His promises
Trust God’s ways and God’s timing
