CHRIST, CREATION, AND THE CONSUMMATION OF HOPE
JOHN 1:1-18 | PR. CHRISTY ANDREWS

• John begins the Christmas story not with a manger, but with eternity. • Advent invites us to see Christ not only as the infant born in Bethlehem, but as the eternal Word who enters our darkness.
I. The Eternal Word — John 1:1–5 • Jesus is the eternal Logos: with God and fully God. • In Him is life, and that life is the light of humanity. • Christ is not a reaction to human sin but God’s original intention. • Advent hope rests in God’s unchanging purpose, not human achievement. • Trust the Word who spoke light into chaos to speak life into our present darkness.
II. The Light That Darkness Cannot Overcome — 1:5, 9–13 • The true Light enters the world, yet is resisted and rejected. • Darkness cannot extinguish or overpower the Light. • Those who receive Christ become children of God. * Salvation is not achieved but received. • God’s light is persistent, victorious, and transforming. • Live as people of the light in a fearful and divided world. • Bear Christ’s peace and joy through reconciliation, compassion, and witness.
III. The Word Became Flesh: God With Us — 1:14–18 • The eternal Word becomes fully human. • God dwells among us, revealing glory, grace, and truth. • Jesus makes the invisible God known. • The Incarnation is the heart of the Christian faith. • God does not remain distant; He enters human vulnerability. • Emmanuel — God with us!
Living Between the Advents We await Christ who has come and who will come again.
