MAM84 25 full album

I recently opened some cardboard boxes and found forgotten music of mine from the 80's. This is an example of what can be done with very few tools and the back on the wall.

I created that music more than 40 years ago, for an event at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris.
One friday evening, the young woman in charge told me that she needed the music for the next monday morning, and so it was my problem from now on. There was no producer to give me any direction, I hadn't the least idea what to do (I was procrastinating since weeks on some vague idea of something "artsy", whatever that meant), but nothing beats a deadline. The following 60 hours were epic, to say the least. I don't really know how I got through the ordeal, I remember a nap at a moment, no food but a lot of weed. I was young.

My tools were a one inch/8 tracks tape machine, an Emulator 1 sampler (in all its 8 bits and 5 1/2" floppies glory), and two synths, the Sequential Prophet 600 and the Yamaha DX7 (oh the epiphany when I linked them with a MIDI cable for the first time...). There was a spring reverb involved, and a Revox tape machine (with a varispeed) as a delay, and that was it. No sequencer to be seen, let alone a computer.

Through the stupor, I don't remember having play guitars, but there are some (with eBow, too), so it can't be anybody else than me. I used also an old trick of mine : a triangle dandling on the strings of a guitar laid on a table. And I remember playing the bass, because it was the 62' Epiphone Rivoli I still have today.
I called two friends in the middle of the last night, a trumpet player and an opera singer, who were kind enough to come in an emergency and perform some beautiful parts through the cloud of smoke.

So 40 years later, I find a copy on some forgotten tapes. To this day, I wonder from where this music came from. And, all things considered, I'm proud of the result.
