Messy Makes March – Coffee Dyed Papers

For several years now I have been compiling and refining a list of monthly themes or challenges that are employed throughout the craft and art communities. There are the few standards that repeat consistently from year to year, like Inktober and Dephemerember and then there are those that arrive with a hiss and a roar then disappear with a whimper due to a lack of interest or maybe just a lack of commitment.

Some of these are very targeted and appropriate only to certain groups within the art community, without considerable re-imagining, such as Draw-cember. If you are an artist or at least someone who can sketch or draw, then this might be for you, but if even drawing stick people is a challenge, then maybe not.

As I said, I've been refining this list so that I can come up with an annual list of challenges that is specific to paper crafters and junk journalers alike. Why am I going to all this effort, I hear you ask? Because I have learnt that when given free rein to do whatever I want, however I want, I struggle to create. The converse of this is that I have also learnt that I work best, and indeed produce my best and most creative work when I have a set of parameters within which to work.

What kind of parameters – these could be time restrictions, limited materials, must have techniques, using a set number of steps or processes, you know that kind of thing. Anything that limits or restricts my choices or rather focuses my attention.

I'm a little bit late starting with my plan for the year, but better late than never, right?!

So I'm starting half way through March, because I don't want to miss out on having any more fun, and what fun it is going to be. What could be better than to start out getting our hands a little bit messy with Messy Makes March?
