On a hot summers day I made a trip down to Ayer, MA to catch a glimpse of Berkshire & Eastern Railroad's (B&E) AY-1 job working the empty grain train "EGT" to head back west to Norfolk Southern (NS 47A) and eventually BNSF, where the train first originated out of (clearly you can see what road mark/logo is on the side of nearly all the railcars). While unloading the final cut of cars on the grain loop in Ayer, the power was detached and bound for a spin on the wye down a couple miles in Ayer. Speaking of motive power, it made for a colorful lash up. Coming into town the night prior with BERX 7489 (EX CSX/MEC) in YN3 patch, behind was BNSF 5747 in H2, FXE 4051, BNSF 8216 and a NS SD70ACC. Once the train arrived, half the train was split to accommodate train length for the grain loop. Both the BNSF 8216 and NS SD70ACC where cut and left with the second half of the train while the next day BERX 7489, BNSF 5747 and FXE 4051 worked around Ayer with an amazing opportunity to catch the Ferromex locomotive leading on the small trek to the Ayer Wye!
Enjoy
