A major challenge for Yukon's wildlife managers is the maintenance of bison numbers while not jeopardizing the herd's long term health. To avoid problems with genetic diversity and reproduction in the future, wildlife managers are trying to maintain a fairly even sex ratio in the herd. That means that hunters should be selective in their choice of animal.
This video provides historical information on bison in Yukon. It also provides clues and signs to look for that can give a hunter a better idea of the sex and age of the animal being selected for harvest.
