Figure Note:
Stop-Motion Transformation of Star Toys ST-02. Excessively complex. Some notes: There are teeny tiny sliders right at the shoulders. They have to be slid one way for car mode (so outward in car mode) to accommodate the tab at the back of the door. And they have to slide the other way for robot mode. There are also small slides holding the sides of the robot (so the part the aforementioned slides are attached to) that allow them to flip over easier. Getting the missile pods to flip over has to be done at a particular positioning of the other parts, which I try to demonstrate. The little flap above his false cabin, just under his head, will actually pop itself out going back to robot mode when you flip his head inside the torso. The flip-over yellow bit on his chest really does serve a purpose, those prongs tab to the top of the rear of the car. You have to pull out the shin panels to make room to untab the sides of the car (the panels under the doors once you flip them out) by pressing in slightly. Until that shin panel is slid up, you cannot tab or untab that keyed tab. The tiny armatures that attach the doors to the panels under the doors have to be folded 90 degrees for robot mode as I try to show. On mine the little friction nub on that part on one side was too “tall” and I had to gently shave it down so it would fold properly. The sides of the back of the car kind of “capture” the hood, but it’s easy for it to slip out. I tab the hood and then hold it firmly from one side while closing the other side. Then I hold it still as best I can while closing the remaining side. Captured properly, the hood should be locked in place. Those metal tabs that “help” with the backpack are entirely unnecessary, but I show where they go anyway.

Production Note: 1107 photos. 4 hour shoot. 2 hour edit. Full triple-changer treatment. I did an especially good job of matching the primordial on this one. Shoot order was car-to-primordial-to-jet, then primordial(recreated)-to-robot.
Viewing Note:
If you want to follow along, I recommend skipping to the speed run and using your , and . keyboard keys to advance by single frames. Every step of the transformation is documented in the frames of the video, in what I consider to be the best sequence. With minimal rubbing and minimal parts-parking.
