Zwift Club Ladder Zombies vs DSS on Bologna

Wasn't planning on racing this, was supposed to be having a break yet here I am. The course is pretty basic, its very flat until it isn't for the last 2k's. I expect the start will be easy, and the finish very tough especially given everyone's 10min numbers look better than mine.

So out of the gate I realize I hadn't started recording, and had to jump onto that. Mark was quick out of the gate but the pace soon settled a bit as people though a bit about that climb. Mark of course didn't get the memo and promptly rode of the front. Once the gap opened Tim and Brian jumped across and Shane went with them giving us 4 up front and 4 out the back.

I was determined not to work until the climb unless an opportunity comes along that is too good to pass up. As the front rode away we played games with our two riders and opted not to cross the gap. Taylor had a little go mid course but not hard enough to do anything meaningful so the status quo held until the climb...

So 9mins in we were already at the bump and started going up still as a group of 4. There was a little to and fro however we all stayed together for the first 1/2 of the climb. Up front Brian looked to have checked out with Tim following and Shane in 3rd. Mark surprisingly was just in front of us and as I got closer I saw the ATOMIC CRUISER! OMG solid bike choice for a hard climb, clearly he wanted an extra hard workout today.

At this point I really struggled to hold the power, the legs just started feeling heavy and with 1/2 the climb left to go and riders in front holding over 4w/kg still I knew I was only going backwards. So I dropped power back to FTP and finished the remainder of the climb at whatever the legs would give me and surprisingly setting a PR too.

So we finished with DSS 1-2-3, we got 4th then DSS took 6th and the remainder of the spots were ours. In the end they got a pretty solid win on the climb so well done and with them back on the ladder we can give the a good race again sometime soon.
