CPTSD and Self Belief

Healing from trauma and building real self-belief is one of the hardest journeys anyone can take. As a trauma survivor, I’ve learned that self-belief is not about constantly being positive or pretending everything is fine. It is about holding on when life feels overwhelming, when your past experiences are screaming that you are not enough, and when others may not understand your process. In this video, I share five of the most important lessons I’ve learned about self-belief through my own journey of trauma recovery and healing.
The first lesson is that self-belief has to be undying. When you’ve lived through trauma, it is easy to feel like things will never change. But self-belief is that deep inner knowing that even if it takes time, even if it is messy, healing is possible. It does not mean you will never struggle, but it does mean you refuse to quit on yourself.
The second lesson is understanding that you will not always feel good. Healing is not linear, and some days will feel heavy. On those days, self-belief is what helps you keep going even when your energy feels low or your motivation seems gone. It reminds you that you are still making progress, even when it doesn’t feel like it.
The third lesson is that people will sometimes tell you to give up. Whether they doubt your healing, don’t understand trauma, or simply can’t imagine what it takes, outside voices can be discouraging. Self-belief means trusting your own journey more than the opinions of others. No one else has to live inside your skin or walk through your history, so no one else gets to define your potential.
The fourth lesson is that trauma itself will lie to you. Especially with complex trauma or developmental trauma, your brain can convince you that you are not good enough, that you look foolish, or that you will never heal. These are not truths; they are trauma imprints. Self-belief means refusing to take every thought at face value and learning to challenge those lies so you can build a stronger and healthier sense of self.
The fifth lesson is that rest is part of the healing process. For trauma survivors, it can be tempting to stay in constant motion—always working, always pushing, always chasing the next breakthrough. But self-belief also means trusting that rest is not the same as giving up. Taking breaks, allowing your nervous system to settle, and creating space to recharge are what allow you to keep going long term.
These five lessons have shaped the way I approach my own healing journey. Self-belief is the foundation that keeps everything else moving, even on the hardest days. If you are a trauma survivor, I hope these lessons remind you that you are not alone and that your healing is possible.
