Following a, let’s just say interesting, trip down to Mexico, Canadian Pacific 2816 began its return trip north. On June 27th, The Empress traveled from Kansas City to Davenport. I was able to follow the train starting in Ottumwa with shots along the way at Rutledge Hill, Farson, Washington, Montpelier, and finally arriving at Nahant. After three days of rest, including a surprise stealth trip over the Iowa Interstate to Silvis and back (found here
• RARE! Canadian Pacific 2816 Travels Solo O... ) the train departed Davenport on July 1st bound for St. Paul. In a stark contrast to the easy trip to Davenport, on the day out of Davenport, 2816 encountered numerous delays and was stuck behind freight trains for the majority of its journey. Because of these delays, I was unable to chase it as far as I wanted, and had to call it off in Guttenberg. However, I was fortunate enough to catch the train at Nahant, Le Claire, Clinton, Bellevue, Dubuque, Waupeton, and finally in Guttenberg. Regardless of the unfortunate events of that day, the chase itself was rather easy compared to other days with 2816. While it it’s now resting in Calgary, hopefully The Empress will be back out on the mainline soon. Thanks for watching!
