Billboarding in Unity: Make 2D objects face the camera

When you want to use a 2D image in a 3D scene in Unity you will likely want to use a billboard effect to ensure it is always faced towards the camera. This can be used for an icon above a game element such as health restore or key point in a map.
In this tutorial we present the two methods for billboarding: making an object look towards the camera, or setting the object to be parallel to the camera. They are very similar but have slightly different characteristics so you can choose the one you prefer.
